Kindergarten Daily Schedule – Little Canada

6:30-9:00 Before-school care: free choice activities, handwashing and breakfast.

9:00-9:30 Kindergarten begins at 9:00am with the morning meeting, calendar books, and a theme of the week large group learning activity.

9:30-10:00 Art followed by spontaneous free choice.

10:00-10:30 Handwashing, morning snack, and bathroom break.

10:30-11:00 Enrichment learning.

11:00-11:15 Large group letter of the week activity.

11:15-12:00 Letter of the week and guided reading activities with high frequency words.  Journalling, directed writing, and independent writing in small groups.

12:00-12:30 Handwashing, lunch, and bathroom break.

12:30-1:05 Large muscle development: outdoor playground or indoor gym.

1:05-1:30 Large group activities: chapter book reading, and star of the week.

1:30-2:00 Rest time with books.

2:00-2:30 “Math Their Way”

2:30-3:00 Science, social studies, or journaling activity.

3:00-3:30 Large group: dance, music, and daily review. Kindergarten ends at 3:30pm.

3:30-6:15 After-school care

Pre-Kindergarten Daily Schedule – Little Canada

6:30-7:30 Free-play while other students are combined in the Pre-Kindergarten classroom.

7:30-8:30 Free-play centers: Literature, Writing, Math, building, dramatic play, Science

8:30-9:00 Handwashing and breakfast.

9:00-9:15 Morning Meeting: calendar, weather, theme of the week discussion, letter of the week, classroom helpers, books, plan for the day.

9:30-10:20 Small Groups: theme of the week art, math, letter/number of the week activities

10:20-10:45 Handwashing and morning snack.  

10:45-11:00 Large group: music & bathroom

11:00-11:45 Large muscle development: outdoor playground or indoor gym.

11:45-12:05 Transition Group: literature and Sign Language.

12:05-12:30 Handwashing and lunch.

12:30-1:00 Transition activity: group stories, bathroom, and handwashing.

1:00-2:30 Nap/rest time.

2:30-3:10 Handwashing, snack, bathroom

3:10-4:00/4:30: Large Group: & learning centers 

4:00-4:45 Large muscle development: outdoor playground or indoor gym (4:30-5:00).

4:45-5:00/5:30 Small Group activities.

7:15–8:30 Quiet activities: puzzles, coloring, manipulative toys, etc.

8:30–9:00 Handwashing and breakfast.

9:00–9:30 Large group: letter of the week, calendar, explanation of the day, and language activities.

Bathroom break and handwashing.

9:30–10:15 Gym or outside.

10:15–10:30 Large group: language activites.

10:30–10:45 Handwashing and morning snack.

10:45–11:45 Small Groups: Teachers work with children in small groups offering more individualized attention.  During this time, there will be three small groups.

Creative group: learning activities related to the theme of the day.

Discovery group: learning activities geared toward cognitive and manipulative levels of children.

Free choice group: dramatic play area, science area, blocks, sensory, language experiences, books, manipulative, cognitive toys, etc.

11:45 – 12:00 Large group: star of the week, music, weather, and review of the day.

12:00 – 12:20 Handwashing and lunch.

12:20 – 12:45 Transition activity, bathroom break, and handwashing.

12:45 – 3:00 Nap/rest time.

3:00 – 3:15 Bathroom, handwashing and afternoon snack.

3:15 – 4:00 Gym or outside.

10:00-10:15 Handwashing and snack.

10:15-11:00 Outside or gym

11:00-11:30 Small groups: art, sensory, fine motor, and cognitive activities.  Each teacher has an assigned group of children & moves with them around the room completing each activity.

11:30-11:45 Large group: calendar and letter of the week learning.

11:45-12:05 Handwashing and lunch.

12:05-12:35 Free-play: children have a choice of 2-3 activities/toys to play with during this time.

12:35-12:45 Nap-time story.

Infant Daily Schedule – Little Canada

The infant schedule will follow the individual needs of your child’s eating and resting patterns.  Each schedule will be modified by your child’s state of development and his or her individual needs.  Below is a general list of activities to illustrate a typical day at Children’s Discovery Academy.

The infant schedule will follow the individual needs of each child’s eating and resting patterns.  Each schedule will be modified by a child’s individual state of development and to his or her needs.  Below is a general list of activities to illustrate a typical day at Children’s Discovery Academy.

Motor Development

Large Muscle: Gross Motor Materials such as Large Muscle Room Equipment, Push Toys, Bouncy Balls, & Outdoor Equipment

Small Muscle: Manipulative Toys (rattles, balls, busy box, pop beads, sand/water toys etc.)

Cognitive Toys (shape box, stacking rings, blocks etc.)

 

Language & Cognitive Development

Children will have use of equipment which will promote talking, listening, and critical thinking such as:

Music, Hard & Soft Blocks, Pictures, Mirrors, Stuffed Animals, & Musical Toys.  Infants will be introduced to Sign Language.

 

Social/Emotional Development

Staff will consistently model and encourage social behavior.  Dramatic play equipment, helping infants to identify emotions, and group play are some ways we help infants develop these skills. Social/Emotional development will be emphasized in all areas of the classroom.

 

Non-Mobile Area

This area is designed to provide a safe environment for non-mobile children while they’re involved in independent discovery time. This will include time in swings, under mobiles, in front of the mirror, access to a variety of toys with different sounds and textures, or quiet time with a teacher in a rocking chair.
